After building a career in the hospitality industry Mark Carter launched his own wine label, Carter Cellars, in the mid-1980s. His revitalization of Kentucky Owl, a bourbon company originally founded in 1879, shifted his focus from wine to whiskey and birthed a passion project, the Old Carter Whiskey Co.
In his new venture Carter focused on producing hand-crafted, uncut, small-batch whiskeys bottled at cask strength to preserve the whiskey’s rich, powerful, complete and uncompromised flavor.
Old Carter operates on a limited-production model. Each batch is released in quantities that range from a few hundred bottles to a few thousand which, combined with strong demand from whiskey aficionados and collectors, makes each Old Carter release highly sought after.
