Lost Lore Tequila scores several wins from the Agavos Awards this year, including the top tequila!
The Agavos Awards, a competition founded to discover and recognize the best agave spirits, whether tequila, mezcal, bacanora, or raicilla, was officially started by Agave Matchmaker (formerly known as Tequila Matchmaker). This year, Lost Lore Tequila made an impressive showing, taking home not only top scores for several of its different expressions, but Best in Show!
The Agavos Awards’ esteemed panel of judges carefully examines all aspects of the agave category. Of course that includes spirits, but authors, distributors, journalists, bartenders, and more. The judges blind-tasted hundreds of entries and base their rankings on a 100-point scale. This year, the highest-ranked tequila was awarded 96 points, which just so happened to be Lost Lore’s highly acclaimed Valley Blanco Tequila.
The Lost Lore Valley Blanco, like all of Lost Lore’s tequilas, is additive-free. This was a limited high-proof release crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the Lowlands of Jalisco. Tasters noted that the tequila carried a striking blend of vegetal and mineral notes, rounded out by those of cooked agave and black pepper.
Another Lost Lore tequila to grab the attention of critics at the competition was the Lost Lore High-Proof Reposado. This tequila, another limited release from the brand, was awarded 92 points by the judges. Ageing in former whiskey barrels gave this tequila a distinct lineup of aromas, including cooked agave, vanilla, and cinnamon. The tequila’s warm character is reflected in the palate as well, with tastes of cooked agave, caramel, and a hint of black pepper, followed by a rich finish with a lingering touch of oak intertwined with sweet spice.
