To celebrate this new relationship, the team from Vintegrity was invited out to the Restless Spirits distillery for a special welcome and a tour of the facilities – along with the opportunity to taste a host of Restless Spirit products. (See gallery below.) Vintegrity was delighted to spend some time with the Restless Spirits crew and were especially grateful for the warm welcome. One Vintegrity attendee remarked “they really rolled out the red carpet for us – they were just so hospitable!”
The visit began with a welcome cocktail and mutual introductions to many staff members. Among those taking part in the celebration was Mike Shannon, founder and president of Restless Spirits Distilling Co. Mike, a 5th generation descendant of Ireland, and now a Kansas City native established Restless Spirits in 2016 with his wife, Benay, and business partner, John Boettcher.
This North Kansas City distillery features huge glass interior windows that present guests a fascinating, up-close view of the innermost workings of the distillery process. The overall aesthetic of the space can only be described as classy and even luxurious. Yet the distillery also retains a very local, hometown feel – almost like an elite saloon.
Reminiscent of Kansas City’s “good old days” – aka Prohibition Era – this sophisticated space is highly communal – featuring a one-of-kind-bar, a cozy tasting room, and a shopping venue all in one warm yet classy establishment. With more than enough hometown pride on display, Restless Spirits pays sincere homage to its KC birthplace.
Kansas City anecdotes and trivia made its rightful way into Vintegrity’s guided tour of the distillery along with with the distillery’s rich history. The tour also featured Restless Spirits’ distilling process and dedication to quality sourcing. From grain to barrel to bottle, it’s abundantly clear Restless Spirits takes extreme pride in their chosen craft.
Speaking of bottles, each Restless Spirits bottle label contains a hidden little secret. Like an adult game of “Where’s Waldo,” nearly hidden yet meaningful terms and visuals give a “wink and a nod” to the early history of this soon to be iconic Kansas City distillery.
